Notes were taken by Kelly Quain and Emily Gamber

After a round of introductions, we discussed the Youth Peacemaker Training 2009. We decided to create a new YPT program in the style of the past events, instead of using the pre planned Ideal School plan from the Fall.

We set a tentative date of April 25th, depending on the availability of the Lehigh Valley Friends Meetinghouse.

We brainstormed topics for small group workshops. The final list is:

Current Events - Obama: Lily

Environment: Lily, Emily, Victoria

Local Food: Peter

Discrimination: Emily, Sarah

Media: Sarah

We decided the workshop leaders should have some sort of outline/notes for the workshop completed by April 4th.

We have three possible guest speakers:

Karen Dolan, (previously lined up for ideal school, Lily will contact) topic - city council, non-profits, students rights

Peter Crownfield, spoke last year on Students rights, but could speak on a variety of topics

Alex L, SDS organizer at Muhlenberg, joined ASAP facebook group, could speak on Campus activism, although there was some question as to whether or not this would be of interest to non-seniors. Emily will contact.

YPT Schedule:

~9:30 - 10:00 Ice Breakers - Lily (pos. Alaskan baseball, game involving rubber chicken)

10:00 - 10:15 Inro. to workshops

10:15 - 11:15 Workshops set 1

11:15 - 11:30 Transition

11:30 - 12:30 Workshop set 2

12:30 - 1:30 Lunch - Vegan Potluck: sandwiches, soup - Lily, mac & fake cheese - Emily

1:30 -2:30 Speaker

2:30 - 3:00 Hassle Lines

3:00 - 3:30 Wrap up, verbal evaluations of training.

At this point we turned to discussing the future of ASAP

Our goals were:

More participation

Movie Nights

Vigils/Rally, with bean plants handouts

Volunteer as a group for soup kitchen

Encourage peace/peace groups in schools - create brochure for creating peace clubs in schools

Letter to politicians/powerful people

Recruiting

We revisited the mission statement and decided it was still sufficient.

Next meeting set for February 19th at 7:00 at LEPOCO.
